SMiD’s honorary prize

Klaus Bruhn Jensen, professor at the Center for Tracking and Society, has been awarded SMiD’s prize for 2026.

Klaus receives the award for an outstanding scholarly contribution that has helped shape both Danish and international media research. From early, pioneering work on reception studies and audience research to more recent studies of the internet, digital technologies, comparative media research, and sustainability, Klaus has repeatedly helped open up new research agendas. His work is characterized by a rare combination of theoretical depth, methodological curiosity, and empirical precision.

He has insisted on the necessity of both qualitative and quantitative approaches - and on the idea that media and communication research must encompass both the big questions of basic research and the societal relevance of applied research. At the same time, Klaus has had an enormous impact as a teacher, editor, textbook author, research leader, and mentor. Generations of students and researchers have encountered the field through his teaching, books, and research environments.

Many of those who today shape Danish media and communication research stand on a foundation that Klaus has helped to build.
