Postdoctoral researcher at CTS wins the Dissertation Award 2025
Kiran Kappeler, postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Tracking and Society, has won the Dissertation Award 2025 by the Swiss Association of Communication and Media Research for her PhD dissertation titled “Negotiating Digital Technology Use in the Highly Digitized Swiss Society – A Mixed-Method Analysis of the Digital Practices of Individuals”.
She completed her PhD at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) at the University of Zurich last summer.
In her dissertation, Kiran explores how individuals navigate the risks associated with digital technology use, such as data-fueled surveillance, the distortion of information through algorithmization, and threats to subjective well-being.
Kiran joined the Center for Tracking and Society as a postdoc at the beginning of this year, where she investigates the potential role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the green transition in Europe as part of the GREENWATCH project.
